AP Student’s Journey

Meet Puneeth,

a student who began ABA intervention at AP Singapore at 3 years 3 months old.

Before ABA intervention, Puneeth’s attention was short and fleeting, his eye contact minimal, and he wasn’t yet communicating — which often led to head-banging, crying and tantrums when he was denied. Follow his journey as our team helps him build the skills to learn, play and connect.

Where Puneeth started

About Puneeth

Puneeth started ABA intervention at AP Singapore at the age of 3 years 3 months. Before intervention, his attention was short and fleeting — he couldn’t sustain sitting down for long, which made learning difficult. His eye contact was minimal, and he would gesture or talk to himself without directing it to others.

Because he wasn’t yet communicating, he often didn’t get what he wanted. He would bang his head, cry and scream, and have a big tantrum when denied or when his toys were taken away — a considerable concern for his parents.

This series follows the programs designed to help Puneeth reach his goals:

Where Puneeth began — and the change

”

“Before he joined AP, his communication, social awareness and eye contact were very poor — and he was happy to play on his own. In a span of two months, I saw a drastic difference in him, which gives me tremendous hope.”

In Puneeth’s mum’s words

“I can say for sure this is the best place”

”

“I have always heard good reviews about AP from friends and doctors — but when I experienced it myself and saw the changes in my son, I can say for sure this is the best place.”

“Time is the key to success in ABA — and if you are looking for ABA therapy, I strongly recommend AP as the best in Singapore.”

Areas of focus

What Puneeth’s program worked on

Starting from where Puneeth was, our team focused on the foundation skills that would help him learn, communicate and connect.

Learning How To Learn Skills

Building the foundation skills for learning — attending, sitting, imitating and following instructions — so Puneeth could stay engaged long enough to learn.

Communication & Language

Giving Puneeth the words to express what he wants — so he could ask, instead of crying, screaming or banging his head.

Behavior Regulation

Helping Puneeth stay calm and regulated when a request is denied or a toy is taken away — easing the daily head-banging, crying and tantrums.

Independent Play Skills

Teaching Puneeth to play meaningfully on his own — keeping him calm, occupied and engaged without constant adult prompting.

Inside the series

The programs that helped Puneeth

Each program targeted a real, everyday goal for Puneeth — taught directly, step by step, to help him learn, play and communicate.

Independent play · Part 1

Preparation & set-up

Before Puneeth could play on his own, we set up the environment and materials to make independent play achievable — the groundwork that keeps a child meaningfully occupied.

Independent play · Part 2

Play strategies

With the set-up in place, we taught the strategies that help Puneeth stay engaged and play independently for longer — giving him, and his parents, calmer, more productive moments.

Communication

Language to express himself

We equipped Puneeth with the language to express what he wants — so he could ask, rather than bang his head, cry or have a tantrum when he was denied.

Communication

Responding to his name

A small skill with a big impact: we taught Puneeth to respond to his name, opening the door to shared attention, instructions and connection with the people around him.

A note from Puneeth’s mum

”

“In AP they really want to train kids to go into mainstream, help the kids have a normal life, teach the skills and lift them up, and involve the parents so the child can be taught at home to generalize.”
