Olivia's Jumpstart ABA Therapy Journey | Autism Partnership Singapore
AP Student’s Journey · Hanoi → Singapore → New York

Meet Olivia,

a student who attended our Jumpstart Program in AP Singapore.

Olivia’s family flew in from Hanoi for an intensive ABA program — the start of a three-city journey across Singapore, Hanoi and New York, held together by one method: APM®.

Your team played such an integral role in literally ‘Jump-Starting’ Olivia’s learning journey. We wouldn’t be celebrating this smooth transition to her ‘big girl’ school without the amazing foundation you all helped her build.”

AP Jumpstart Program has helped Olivia’s family keep her therapy continuous across three cities!

Olivia’s family first came to Singapore looking for specialized, quality ABA therapy. Quality services were limited in Hanoi where they lived, and they wanted to jumpstart Olivia’s journey and experience APM® for themselves.

What they were really looking for

  • To experience our unique approach to ABA therapy (APM®).
  • To kick-start Olivia’s learning by maximizing gains in a short window.
  • To get advanced clinical guidance — and a trainable plan for the team back home.
  • To train a trainer / therapist — in their case, Olivia’s shadow teacher in Hanoi.

Olivia’s Focus: School Readiness. Before starting, the team spoke with Olivia’s parents about her challenges — difficulty tolerating not getting her way, and trouble settling and paying attention at school. After assessment, we built a six-week intensive Jumpstart Program around school readiness, working across five focus areas.

The program Olivia joined

What is the APM® Jumpstart Program?

A 5–10 day intensive 1:1 ABA therapy program at AP Singapore, led by our most senior clinicians of supervisory level using the Autism Partnership Method (APM®).

Built for families who want rapid, focused progress in a short window — or who are evaluating whether AP is right for their child before committing to longer-term care such as our monthly Early Intervention Program.

Inside the program

The five focus areas of Olivia’s Jumpstart plan

Over a six-week summer intensive, a highly experienced AP team worked with Olivia to maximize gains in a short window. Before any new concept can be taught, a child first needs the skills to receive it — to wait, to listen, to stay engaged. Here’s how her plan came together.

Focus 1

Behavior Regulation & Learning How To Learn Skills

  • Built tolerance and compliance — Olivia learned that “later” doesn’t mean “never,” staying calm when a request was denied.
  • Earned tokens for following directions, with gentle corrective feedback; reinforcement faded as good learning behaviors became consistent.
  • Generalised “wait, listen, not being silly” through play, general knowledge and early academics.

Focus 2

Communication & Language

  • Set up the environment to spark spontaneous communication — prompting only when needed.
  • Built clarity on her high-frequency words — consonants, vowels and blends — in short, motivating practice sets.
  • Grew fluency, independence and pacing so she could express herself with confidence.

Focus 3

Play & Social Skills

  • Broadened her desire to play and interact with others, not just alongside them.
  • Taught social games and pretend play to build competence in interactive play.
  • Made playing with peers a positive, preferred choice — by the end, she chose others over solo play.

Focus 4

School Readiness Skills

  • Moved from a stable 1:1 setting into small groups — first with adults as pretend peers, then real students.
  • Built observational learning — learning from peers’ responses, not only the teacher.
  • A simulated classroom to ready her for a real school environment.

Parent Training & Train-the-Trainer Program

  • Train-the-Trainer: theory and hands-on training with Olivia for her shadow teacher in Hanoi.
  • Parent Training: parents learn termination-of-reinforcement, waiting, and following directions.
  • Procedures carry home so progress continues after the program.

When we came to Singapore, we had no idea that life would lead us to New York.”

Continuity of care

Three countries. One method. Years of compounding progress.

One of the most underrated outcomes of Jumpstart is that the work continues — at home, at school, and in a different country. Here’s how Olivia’s family used the program across three cities.

Step 1 · Hanoi → Singapore

Six-week intensive Jumpstart

Olivia’s family flew in from Hanoi for an intensive ABA program with our advanced team — including Train-the-Trainer for her shadow teacher.

Step 3 · Second Jumpstart in Singapore

A note from Olivia’s mum

“Meet Olivia” made me so proud.

AP having a global presence in NYC at this time was immense to us. It’s amazing how we were able to seamlessly foster her through AP methods during this enormous change. She has adapted and grown so much, and I attribute a lot of that to the synergy of having similar practices globally.”
Both teams’ dedication was truly pivotal in helping her reach the wonderful place she is today.”
